The Self Unstable Book Party December 14th

December 14, 2013
Come celebrate the release of Elisa Gabbert's THE SELF UNSTABLE
just out from Black Ocean.

7 pm
Berl's Poetry Shop
126A Front Street

Featuring a reading by the author as well as special readings by:
Jennifer Olsen
Becca Klaver
Niina Pollari
Cassandra Gillig

About the book:
Elisa Gabbert’s The Self Unstable combines elements of memoir, philosophy, and aphorism to explore and trouble our ideas of the self, memory, happiness, aesthetics, love, and sex. With a sense of humor and an ability to find glimmers of the absurd in the profound, she uses the lyric essay like a koan to provoke the reader’s reflection—unsettling the role of truth and interrogating the “I” in both literary and daily life: “The future isn’t anywhere, so we can never get there. We can only disappear.”

About Elisa Gabbert:
Elisa Gabbert is the author of The Self Unstable (Black Ocean) and The French Exit (Birds, LLC), as well as a recent collaborative chapbook co-written with Kathleen Rooney, The Kind of Beauty That Has Nowhere to Go (Hyacinth Girl Press). Her poems and prose have recently appeared or are forthcoming in Another Chicago Magazine, Boston Review, Court Green, Hobart, Phoebe, The Toast, The Volta and other journals. She lives in Denver and blogs at The French Exit. Follow her on Twitter at @egabbert.
